Anyone employed in Hungary can apply for a tax ID number. It’s important to know that applying for the tax number is mandatory even after one day in a paid job.
A tax ID number and a tax exemption card can be requested from the National Tax Authority (NAV). For foreign nationals who do not wish to go personally to the tax authority, it is possible to authorize someone to apply.
